Overview

2-bromopalmitate (2-BP) is a synthetic, non-metabolizable analogue of palmitic acid that acts as a broad-spectrum irreversible inhibitor of protein S-palmitoylation, a reversible post-translational lipid modification of proteins. It is widely used as a biochemical tool in research to inhibit palmitoylation-dependent cellular processes, including signal transduction, protein trafficking, and membrane association of several proteins. 2-bromopalmitate has shown activity in cell signaling and neuroscience studies, particularly for modulating the function of palmitoylated signaling proteins. The compound is not approved for therapeutic or diagnostic human use and is strictly for laboratory research applications[4][6][10].
