Overview

**2-deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acetylneuraminic acid** is a synthetic small molecule derivative of N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) in which the hydroxy group at C‑2 is removed and the molecule is reduced across the 2,3-bond. It acts as a potent inhibitor of neuraminidases (sialidases) from viral (including influenza), bacterial, and mammalian sources by binding to their catalytic site as a transition state analog.
