2-deoxy-D-ribose (2dDR) is a small molecule sugar-based pro-angiogenic agent being developed by Cannenta for the treatment of chronic and difficult-to-heal wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers. It functions by stimulating the patient's endogenous production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which promotes the formation of new blood vessels essential for tissue repair and wound closure. The drug is delivered via a topical hydrogel wound dressing, which is manufactured using electron-beam crosslinked polymer technology in partnership with Nexgel. Cannenta is currently conducting clinical trials for this product in Australia.
