Overview

**2-fluorodeschloroketamine (2FDCK)** is a synthetic dissociative anesthetic and a structural analog of ketamine, in which the chlorine atom of ketamine is replaced by fluorine. It belongs to the arylcyclohexylamine class and acts as a designer drug with reported effects similar to those of ketamine, including dissociation, impaired consciousness, agitation, hallucinations, confusion, tachycardia, and hypertension. The mechanism of action is presumed to involve antagonism at the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA receptor)—similar to ketamine and phencyclidine—though specific pharmacological data are limited. Preclinical studies indicate that its reinforcing efficacy and abuse potential are comparable to ketamine[1][3][6][7]. It has been detected in multiple countries since its first synthesis in 2014 and emergence on the recreational drug market around 2016[5]. Research into therapeutic uses is ongoing; for example, preclinical studies suggest it may have antidepressant effects with greater longevity than ketamine[2].
