Overview

2-hydroxy-5-fluoropyrimidine (2H5F) is an investigational small molecule that acts as an antagonistic mimetic of the L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM). L1CAM is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is frequently overexpressed in aggressive tumors, where it promotes cell migration, invasion, and metastasis. By interfering with L1-mediated interactions, 2H5F suppresses the motility of cancer cells. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that the compound effectively reduces the migration of glioblastoma and melanoma cell lines in vitro and decreases tumor volume in vivo in melanoma mouse models. It was identified through high-throughput screening of organic compound libraries using an ELISA competition approach to find molecules that mimic L1-specific antibody binding.
