Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2-hydroxyflutamide is the primary active metabolite of the non-steroidal antiandrogen flutamide. It functions as a competitive antagonist of the androgen receptor (AR), effectively blocking the binding of endogenous androgens such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to their target receptors. While flutamide is typically administered orally, LIDDS AB has developed a specialized formulation known as **Liproca Depot**. This product utilizes the proprietary NanoZolid technology to create a calcium sulfate-based paste that is injected directly into the prostate. This localized, controlled-release delivery system is designed to provide high concentrations of the antiandrogen within the prostate tissue to treat localized prostate cancer while significantly reducing systemic exposure and the associated side effects common with oral antiandrogen therapy.
