Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2-hydroxyflutamide depot is a novel, controlled-release, intraprostatic formulation of the nonsteroidal antiandrogen 2-hydroxyflutamide (the active metabolite of flutamide), delivered using a bioresorbable calcium sulphate-based matrix (NanoZolid technology). It is designed for local injection into the prostate to provide sustained release of the drug over several months. The mechanism of action involves antagonism of the androgen receptor, thereby inhibiting androgen-driven growth in prostate tissue. This formulation aims to treat men with localized low or intermediate-risk prostate cancer who are on active surveillance, offering a minimally invasive alternative with fewer systemic side effects compared to oral antiandrogens or radical therapies[1][6][7][9].
