Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2-Iminobiotin is a synthetic small molecule and analog of biotin (vitamin B7), classified as a biotin derivative. It acts as a selective inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), enzymes involved in the production of nitric oxide. By inhibiting these enzymes, 2-Iminobiotin exhibits neuroprotective properties and has been investigated for its potential to reduce brain injury following hypoxic or ischemic events such as perinatal asphyxia. The compound has orphan drug designation in both the US and Europe for neonatal hypoxic and ischemic brain injury[5][7][9].
