Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2-Undecanone is a naturally occurring volatile organic compound (VOC) and a ketone. It is found in various plants such as Ruta graveolens, Houttuynia cordata, and Ruta montana, as well as in fermented food products like pineapple juice and bamboo shoots, where it contributes to flavor profiles. It has demonstrated a wide range of biological activities, including nematicidal effects against Caenorhabditis elegans and Meloidogyne incognita by inducing repellency and contact toxicity. It also exhibits antifungal activity against pathogens like Pseudogymnoascus destructans, antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-melanogenic effects. Furthermore, it has shown potential as a bioherbicide for weed control and is being investigated for cosmetic applications targeting acne and skin inflammation.
