20-hydroxyecdysone

20-hydroxyecdysone is a naturally occurring ecdysteroid hormone found in plants and invertebrates. It is being investigated by the Research Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Uzbekistan for the treatment of giardiasis, particularly in water sports athletes. The compound exhibits a broad range of biological properties, including anabolic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-obesity, and antidiabetic activities. While traditionally used as a dietary supplement to increase strength and muscle mass, its anti-protozoal potential is being evaluated in a Phase 2/3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study comparing it to metronidazole. The drug is administered orally at a dose of 100 mg twice daily for 10 consecutive days.
