20-SOLA is a water-soluble, synthetic small molecule antagonist of **20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (20-HETE)**, a potent vasoactive eicosanoid. It acts by specifically blocking the **G protein-coupled receptor 75 (GPR75)**, which serves as the high-affinity receptor for 20-HETE. Developed primarily through academic collaboration between **New York Medical College** and the **University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center**, 20-SOLA has demonstrated significant therapeutic potential in preclinical models for cardiometabolic and renal diseases. By disrupting the 20-HETE-GPR75 signaling axis, the compound has been shown to normalize blood pressure in hypertensive models, attenuate weight gain and insulin resistance in obesity models, and restore coronary collateral growth in metabolic syndrome. Recent research also highlights its role in alleviating septic acute kidney injury (S-AKI) by modulating the inflammatory microenvironment and reducing oxidative stress in macrophages.
