Overview

The 2018-19 quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (QIV) is a seasonal vaccine designed to protect against four different influenza viruses: two influenza A viruses (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B viruses (one from the Victoria lineage and one from the Yamagata lineage). This specific formulation was the subject of the TITRE III immunogenicity investigation led by the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). The study specifically evaluated the antibody response to the B/Victoria lineage component (B/Colorado/60/2007), which replaced the previous B/Brisbane/60/2008 strain for that season. The vaccine works by inducing neutralizing antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin, preventing the virus from attaching to and entering host cells.
