Overview

24-Homo-1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 is a synthetic analogue of vitamin D. It is structurally related to calcitriol (the active form of vitamin D), but with a modification at the C24 position ("homo" indicates an additional methylene group). This compound acts as a vitamin D receptor agonist and is being investigated for its potential biological activities similar to those of natural vitamin D metabolites. Its primary mechanism involves binding to and activating the vitamin D receptor (VDR), thereby modulating gene expression involved in calcium and phosphate homeostasis as well as cell differentiation. It remains experimental and has not been approved for clinical use[1][2][3].
