25-desacetylrifapentine is the primary active metabolite of rifapentine, a member of the rifamycin class of antibiotics. It is formed in vivo by esterase-mediated hydrolysis of rifapentine and retains antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Like other rifamycins, it acts by binding to the β-subunit of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby inhibiting RNA synthesis and exerting bactericidal effects. The compound has been studied as part of pharmacokinetic investigations in tuberculosis therapy and contributes significantly to the overall antimicrobial activity observed with rifapentine treatment[1][2][7][9].
