Drug intelligence / Profile preview
250 ppm F as MFP is an experimental low-concentration fluoride-containing dentifrice (toothpaste) developed by The Procter & Gamble Company, in which the active ingredient is sodium monofluorophosphate (MFP) at a concentration of 250 parts per million of fluoride. It is formulated in a silica abrasive base and is used as a comparator/low-dose arm in clinical research studies evaluating the anticaries (anti-dental caries) efficacy of MFP dentifrices across a range of fluoride concentrations (e.g., 250, 1,100, and 2,800 ppm F as MFP). The drug's biological target is tooth enamel, where fluoride ions promote remineralization and inhibit demineralization, thereby protecting against dental caries. It is classified as a small molecule/topical oral care product (dentifrice), not a biologic. It does not appear to have a consumer brand name, as it is a research/experimental formulation. It has been studied in Phase 1-type randomized crossover trials evaluating salivary fluoride clearance and in situ remineralization in healthy adults, serving primarily as a dose-response reference point rather than a standalone therapeutic product.
