Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The 26-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine is an investigational multivalent vaccine designed to protect against disease caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. It contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 26 different serotypes of *S. pneumoniae*, each conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity, especially in young children and other populations with weaker immune responses. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies that promote opsonophagocytosis and killing of the bacteria, thereby preventing invasive diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia. This candidate is being developed primarily for broad protection across global populations where diverse serotype coverage is needed[5][6]. The primary developer identified in clinical trials is Beijing Luzhu Biopharmaceutical.
