28H1-IRDye700DX is an antibody–dye conjugate designed for targeted photodynamic therapy. It consists of the monoclonal antibody 28H1, which targets fibroblast activation protein (FAP), conjugated to IRDye 700DX—a near-infrared (NIR) phthalocyanine dye with high photostability and fluorescence intensity[5][2][7]. Upon binding to FAP-expressing cells and exposure to NIR light (typically around 690 nm), the conjugate induces rapid cell death through disruption of membrane integrity, a process known as near-infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT)[5][7]. This approach enables selective destruction of FAP-positive cells in tumors or diseased tissue while minimizing off-target effects. The primary indications under investigation include cancer and fibrotic diseases such as arthritis[2][5].
