Overview

2Br-NDIA is a novel polycyclic conjugated small molecule that functions as a photothermal agent for cancer therapy. It is characterized by its ability to convert light energy into heat, which subsequently activates the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ion channel. This activation facilitates a significant influx of calcium ions into the cell, specifically targeting the mitochondria to induce calcium overload. This process disrupts intracellular calcium homeostasis and overcomes tumor resistance mechanisms. 2Br-NDIA has been studied primarily in the context of hepatocellular carcinoma, often delivered via multifunctional nanoparticles (such as the CNQ system) to enhance therapeutic precision and efficacy.
