Overview

2D2-CAR T cells are a form of **chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy**, an advanced immunotherapy in which a patient's T cells are genetically modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) derived from the 2D2 monoclonal antibody. The CAR is designed to target a specific antigen—most likely a protein relevant to the disease, such as those found on malignant or autoreactive cells, depending on the engineered target. The process involves isolating a patient’s T cells, using gene transfer techniques to express the 2D2 CAR (a synthetic receptor), expanding the modified T cells ex vivo, and then infusing them back into the patient. Mechanistically, these engineered T cells are directed to recognize and bind a specific antigen with high specificity, leading to activation, proliferation, and cytotoxic activity against cells presenting that antigen. The designation "2D2" usually denotes the source monoclonal antibody specificity, which is often used in research or preclinical development, including for certain autoimmune diseases or investigational oncology targets.
