Drug intelligence / Profile preview
2% Chlorohexidine Gluconate soap is a topical antiseptic soap formulated with 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), a broad-spectrum biguanide antiseptic. It is widely used in healthcare settings for surgical hand scrubbing, healthcare personnel handwashing, and pre-operative skin preparation. CHG acts by binding to and disrupting bacterial cell membranes, leading to cell lysis and death. In a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT04155697) conducted by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, 2% chlorhexidine gluconate soap was evaluated for its physical efficacy in removing third-hand smoke (THS) nicotine residue from the fingers of smokers visiting a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), comparing its removal efficiency against an ethyl alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
