Drug intelligence / Profile preview
3,4,5-Tricaffeoylquinic acid (3,4,5-triCQA or TCQA) is a naturally occurring polyphenolic caffeoylquinic acid derivative found in various plants, including sweet potato leaves, propolis, and coffee. It exhibits potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and hair growth-promoting properties. In preclinical models of Parkinson's disease, 3,4,5-triCQA has been shown to inhibit MPP⁺-induced neuronal apoptosis by suppressing mitochondrial membrane depolarization, preventing reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and maintaining intracellular glutathione (GSH) homeostasis. Additionally, it promotes adult neurogenesis and improves cognitive deficits in aging and Alzheimer's disease models by stimulating neural stem cell differentiation and activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. 3,4,5-triCQA also accelerates hair follicle transition from the telogen to the anagen phase and stimulates hair growth through β-catenin activation in dermal papilla cells. It is primarily investigated as a research reagent and nutraceutical candidate for neurodegenerative disorders and alopecia.
