Overview

3-(4-Benzenesulfonyl-Thiophene-2-Sulfonylamino)-Phenylboronic Acid is an experimental small molecule inhibitor belonging to the sulfanilide class of organic compounds. It acts as a potent inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, including AmpC beta-lactamase from Escherichia coli and Enterobacter cloacae, as well as TEM-type beta-lactamases. The compound binds to the active site of these enzymes and inhibits their function, thereby potentially restoring or enhancing the efficacy of beta-lactam antibiotics against resistant bacteria. Its mechanism involves competitive inhibition at the enzyme's active site with reported Ki values in the nanomolar range for some targets. This compound has not been approved for clinical use and remains at an experimental stage with no known clinical trials or marketed products[1][4][5].
