Overview

3-PLG (3-armed poly(l-glutamic acid)) is a branched polypeptide nanocarrier designed for targeted drug delivery, particularly across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). It consists of a three-armed star-shaped polymer of L-glutamic acid, which provides high functionality, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. In research settings, these nanoparticles are often functionalized with ligands such as alanine and glutathione to exploit nutrient transporters on cerebral endothelial cells, facilitating active transport into the central nervous system. This platform has been investigated for its potential to deliver therapeutic agents to the brain for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's disease.
