Overview

3-Bromo-7-nitroindazole is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the indazole class of organic compounds. It acts as a potent and selective inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), with greater potency than its analog, 7-nitroindazole. It also inhibits other isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), including endothelial NOS (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS), but with lower potency. The compound has been used primarily in research settings to study the role of nNOS in neurobiology, neuroprotection, and memory formation. There are no approved clinical indications for this compound; it is considered experimental and is not approved for human therapeutic use[1][4][6].
