Overview

**3-Fluoro-L-tyrosine** is a synthetic amino acid derivative and a non-proteinogenic analog of L-tyrosine. It features a fluorine atom at the 3-position of the aromatic ring, which enhances its metabolic stability and specificity for certain biological targets. This compound is primarily used in pharmaceutical and biochemical research as a building block for novel drug development, in neuroscience to study neurotransmitter pathways (notably dopamine), and as an imaging agent in oncology due to its preferential uptake by tumor cells. Mechanistically, it acts by inhibiting superoxide dismutase [mn], mitochondrial, reducing oxidative stress in cells. It is also transported into cells via the L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1), which is often upregulated in malignant tumors—making it useful as a PET radiotracer for tumor imaging[1][2][5].
