Overview

3-methoxyamfetamine + 4-methylthioamphetamine is a combination of two synthetic substituted amphetamine derivatives: 3-methoxyamfetamine (3-MA, a combined serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine releasing agent) and 4-methylthioamphetamine (4-MTA, a selective serotonin releasing agent and reversible monoamine oxidase A inhibitor). Both compounds are recreational designer drugs of the amphetamine class that have been encountered on the illicit drug market, often sold as or mixed with "ecstasy" (MDMA). Due to their potent serotonergic activity and, in the case of 4-MTA, MAO-A inhibition, the combination carries a high risk of severe serotonergic toxicity (serotonin syndrome), hyperthermia, and potentially fatal overdose. Neither substance has any approved medical or therapeutic indications, and both are classified as controlled substances globally.
