Overview

3-Methylthiofentanyl is a synthetic opioid analgesic and a structural analog of fentanyl. It acts primarily as an agonist at the mu, delta, and kappa opioid receptors, leading to central nervous system depression with effects such as analgesia (pain relief), euphoria, sedation, and potentially life-threatening respiratory depression. Like other fentanyl analogs, it has a high potential for abuse and overdose. It was briefly sold illicitly in the early 1980s before being classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States due to its lack of accepted medical use and high risk for abuse[1][2][5].
