Drug intelligence / Profile preview
30% ethanolic propolis extract is a botanical formulation derived from a natural resinous substance collected by honeybees (*Apis mellifera*) from plant exudates, specifically *Acacia modesta* in the Margalla Hills. Investigated by the Dow University of Health Sciences for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity, the extract contains bioactive compounds such as bioflavonoids. It works through a dual mechanism: physically occluding exposed dentin tubules by forming crystals and biologically stimulating the production of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), which induces the differentiation of odontoblast-like cells to promote reparative dentin formation.
