Drug intelligence / Profile preview
3D29 (also known as mAb 3d29) is a cross-reactive murine monoclonal antibody developed by the University of Colorado and Johns Hopkins University that specifically targets the tissue-bound complement activation fragments C3d, iC3b, and C3dg. Unlike other anti-C3 antibodies, 3D29 preferentially binds to these cleaved fragments in solution and on tissue surfaces without binding to intact, native circulating C3 or C3b. This specificity allows 3D29 to serve as a highly sensitive molecular imaging probe (when conjugated to fluorescent or radioactive tags) to non-invasively detect and monitor localized complement activation and tissue inflammation in conditions such as lupus nephritis, C3 glomerulopathy, and chronic Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. Additionally, 3D29 blocks the interaction between C3d and complement receptor type 2 (CR2), demonstrating therapeutic potential to halt or reverse complement-mediated inflammatory damage.
