Overview
3M Cavilon Barrier Film is a terpolymer-based, alcohol-free liquid barrier film designed to protect intact or damaged skin from irritation caused by bodily fluids (such as urine and feces), wound exudate, adhesives, friction, and shear. Upon application to the skin—via wand, wipe, or spray—it dries rapidly to form a transparent, breathable coating that provides up to 72 hours of protection. The film is non-cytotoxic and hypoallergenic; it does not interfere with wound healing or absorbency of dressings. Its mechanism of action is physical—creating a protective interface between the skin and external irritants—rather than pharmacological. It is suitable for use in adults, children, and infants over one month old[1][2][5].
