3Mix

3Mix is a triple antibiotic paste used in dentistry for Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR). Originally developed by Hoshino et al., the standard formulation typically consists of a combination of ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline. In clinical practice, a 'Modified 3Mix' is often used, which replaces minocycline with clindamycin or cefaclor to prevent tooth discoloration. The paste is applied topically to the pulp or root canal system of necrotic teeth, particularly in pediatric dentistry for primary molars, to achieve profound disinfection of the endodontic space and periradicular tissues. It works by targeting a broad spectrum of endodontic pathogens, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as obligate and facultative anaerobes.
