Drug intelligence / Profile preview
4-Aminosalicylic acid is an anti-mycobacterial agent used primarily in the treatment of tuberculosis, particularly in cases of drug-resistant TB. It acts by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for enzymes involved in folate synthesis, thereby inhibiting the growth of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. It is also used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis, though its use in this area has been largely superseded by other drugs.
