4-BHPCP is a novel synthetic fluoroquinolone derivative based on the structure of ciprofloxacin, currently being investigated for its potential antineoplastic properties. It has demonstrated significant cytotoxicity and apoptosis-inducing activity in human myeloid leukemia cells, specifically the KG1-a cell line, with an IC50 of approximately 25µM. The compound's mechanism of action involves the modulation of the apoptotic pathway by down-regulating anti-apoptotic factors such as Bcl-2 and Survivin, while simultaneously up-regulating the pro-apoptotic protein Bax. This shift in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio triggers programmed cell death, suggesting that 4-BHPCP may serve as a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
