Overview

4-ethoxybenzaldehyde (branded as Quadrinone) is a small molecule topical agent developed by Cutanix Corporation (later acquired by BioForm Medical and then SkinMedica/Merz Aesthetics). It was primarily marketed under the brand name Dramatic Relief (DRL) for the treatment of facial erythema and inflammation associated with conditions such as rosacea, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and allergic dermatitis. The compound is thought to act as an anti-inflammatory agent, specifically targeting the pathways involved in skin redness. In 2007, the FDA classified the products as unapproved new drugs due to therapeutic claims, leading to their removal from the market and subsequent reformulation as cosmetic skincare products like Redness Relief CalmPlex.
