4-oxo-docosahexaenoic acid (4-oxo DHA) is a putative metabolite of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, formed via 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) metabolism. It is a small molecule that acts as a covalent agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), activating gene transcription with an EC50 of approximately 8–16 µM. In preclinical research, 4-oxo-docosahexaenoic acid has demonstrated antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activity against several human breast cancer cell lines, particularly triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) subtypes. It is currently utilized primarily as a research reagent and has no active clinical development program or approved therapeutic indications.
