Overview

5(S),6(R)-lipoxin A4 methyl ester is a synthetic, lipid-soluble prodrug of lipoxin A4 (LXA4), a trihydroxy fatty acid and specialized pro-resolving lipid mediator derived from arachidonic acid via the action of lipoxygenase enzymes in human leukocytes[2][7]. The compound acts as an agonist at the Formyl peptide receptor 2 (ALX/FPR2) and mimics endogenous LXA4 activity. It promotes resolution of inflammation by inhibiting leukocyte activation, chemotaxis, natural killer cell function, and monocyte migration and adhesion[7][6]. Preclinical studies have shown efficacy in models of asthma and diabetic complications such as kidney disease and atherosclerosis[3][5]. The drug is primarily used as a research tool to study inflammation resolution pathways.
