Overview
5β-dihydrotestosterone is an endogenous **androgen metabolite** of testosterone and a **stereoisomer of dihydrotestosterone** that has been investigated primarily as a research-stage small-molecule hormone for cardiovascular effects. Unlike testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone, 5β-dihydrotestosterone appears to have little or no classical androgen receptor-driven genomic proliferative activity, while retaining rapid non-genomic vasodilatory and antioxidant effects in vascular tissue. In the cited preclinical study, it improved vasodilator function in mesenteric arteries from aged orchidectomized rats and did not increase proliferation of androgen-dependent prostatic tumor cells, supporting interest in potential development for cardiovascular pathologies, but there is no clear evidence from the provided context of an established commercial developer, manufacturer, approved product, or advanced clinical development program specific to this compound.
