Overview

5,7-Dichlorokynurenic acid is a potent and selective antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor complex. It acts specifically at the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor (Ki ≈ 79 nM), thereby inhibiting NMDA receptor-mediated responses. This compound is a synthetic derivative of kynurenic acid and belongs to the class of quinoline carboxylic acids. It has been widely used in research to study glutamatergic neurotransmission and neuroprotection due to its ability to block excitatory amino acid signaling mediated by NMDA receptors[1][2][4][5][9]. There are no approved clinical indications; it is used exclusively as an experimental tool in neuroscience.
