Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**5-aminolevulinic acid + OJP-001** is a combination therapeutic system used primarily as an investigational treatment for adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. The regimen consists of oral administration of 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), a small molecule precursor in the heme biosynthetic pathway, followed by use of OJP-001, a photodynamic therapy (PDT) system. After 5-ALA administration, the photodynamic system activates accumulated protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in cancerous cells via specific light exposure, leading to cellular destruction through the generation of reactive oxygen species[4]. OJP-001 integrates photodynamic therapy with extracorporeal circulation technology as a novel approach to target circulating malignant cells[3][4]. The mechanism leverages 5-ALA's selective accumulation and conversion to PpIX in malignant cells, enhancing the effectiveness and specificity of PDT for hematologic malignancies.
