5-aminosalicylic acid + prednisone

This is a combination therapy consisting of 5-aminosalicylic acid (also known as mesalazine or mesalamine) and prednisone. 5-aminosalicylic acid is an anti-inflammatory agent primarily used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory mediators in the colon. Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid that acts as an immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory agent by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, thereby modulating gene expression and suppressing inflammatory responses. The combination has been studied for use in active ulcerative colitis, particularly in hospitalized patients with acute severe disease; however, clinical trials have not demonstrated significant benefit of adding 5-ASA to corticosteroids over corticosteroids alone during induction therapy for acute severe ulcerative colitis[1][3][5]. Both drugs are well-established individually for their respective indications.
