5-aminouracil

5-Aminouracil is a synthetic pyrimidone derivative and structural analog of uracil. It is classified as a thymine antagonist and acts primarily as an inhibitor of DNA replication. In experimental settings—particularly in plant cell biology—it has been used to induce DNA replication stress by interfering with the S-phase checkpoint mechanisms. This results in altered cell cycle progression and can lead to premature chromosome condensation or abnormal nuclear organization. Its main utility has been as a research tool for studying DNA synthesis and cell cycle regulation rather than as a therapeutic agent[1][8]. There are no approved medical indications or clinical uses for this compound.
