Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen that includes three anticancer drugs: 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), cyclophosphamide, and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin. This combination is a variation of the standard FAC (5-fluorouracil, Adriamycin/doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide) regimen, where conventional doxorubicin is replaced with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin. **Mechanism of action:** - 5-Fluorouracil: An antimetabolite that stops cells from making and repairing DNA, causing cell death during division - Cyclophosphamide: An alkylating agent that stops cancer cells from reproducing - Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin: A formulation of doxorubicin encapsulated in liposomes coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG). This formulation allows for preferential uptake by tumor tissue while reducing exposure to normal tissues, particularly the heart
