Drug intelligence / Profile preview
5-MAPB (5-(2-methylaminopropyl)benzofuran) is a synthetic entactogen of the substituted benzofuran class, structurally related to MDMA. It acts as a triple monoamine reuptake inhibitor and releasing agent (SNDRA), promoting the release and inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Additionally, it acts as an agonist at several serotonin receptors, including 5-HT1B, 5-HT2A, 5-HT2B, and 5-HT2C. Developed preclinically by companies such as Clearmind Medicine, Tactogen, and Klimai Medicine, 5-MAPB is being investigated as a potential alternative to MDMA for psychotherapy-assisted treatment of psychiatric disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder, due to its reportedly longer duration of action, lower stimulation, and potentially reduced neurotoxicity compared to MDMA.
