Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination drug consists of 5-methoxy-2-aminoindane (MEAI), a synthetic aminoindane derivative, and palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), an endogenous fatty acid amide. MEAI acts primarily as a selective serotonin releasing agent (SSRA) and is being investigated for its potential to reduce alcohol consumption by mimicking the pleasurable effects of alcohol without the associated toxicity or impairment. PEA is included in the formulation to potentially enhance the safety profile and provide anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective benefits via its action as a PPAR-alpha agonist. The combination is primarily being developed by Clearmind Medicine for the treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and other addictive behaviors, such as binge eating.
