Drug intelligence / Profile preview
55P0251 is a novel, plant-derived small molecule developed from a molecular backbone structure of multiflorine, an alkaloid found in herbal remedies. It exhibits potent antihyperglycemic activity in rodents by amplifying glucose-stimulated insulin secretion without inducing hypoglycemia under basal conditions. Preclinical studies indicate that 55P0251 acts primarily as an alpha-2A adrenoceptor antagonist on pancreatic beta-cells, counteracting adrenergic inhibition of insulin release. At higher concentrations, it may also enhance insulin secretion through an additional imidazoline-like mechanism of action. The compound was developed by 255pharma Drug Discovery & Development in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna.
