Drug intelligence / Profile preview
5% thymoquinone gel is a topical liposomal formulation developed by King Abdulaziz University for the treatment of gingivitis. Thymoquinone, the active ingredient, is a phytochemical compound derived from Nigella sativa (black cumin) known for its potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities. In clinical studies, it is applied topically to the gingiva as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) to reduce inflammation and improve clinical attachment levels. The liposomal delivery system is designed to improve the bioavailability and localized delivery of the compound within the oral cavity.
