Overview
6-grass pollen mixture extract is an allergenic extract immunotherapy used for the diagnosis and treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis, with or without conjunctivitis. It is composed of extracts from six different types of grass pollen: Agrostis gigantea (Redtop), Dactylis glomerata (Orchard grass), Festuca pratensis (Meadow Fescue), Lolium perenne (Perennial Rye), Phleum pratense (Timothy), and Poa pratensis (Kentucky Bluegrass). The therapy works by repeatedly exposing the immune system to these specific allergens to induce immunological tolerance, thereby reducing the allergic response upon natural exposure. Various formulations have been developed by companies like ALK-Abello and Allergopharma, including subcutaneous injections and sublingual liquid solutions.
