Drug intelligence / Profile preview
6-methoxyseselin is a natural coumarin compound isolated from the roots of the Brazilian plant *Zanthoxylum tingoassuiba*. It demonstrates a diverse range of therapeutic properties, including potent vasorelaxation, antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities. Recent preclinical investigations have highlighted its potential as a novel anti-asthmatic agent; in murine models, inhaled 6-methoxyseselin was shown to regulate Th2-mediated immune responses and induce significant relaxation of airway smooth muscles, with efficacy comparable to dexamethasone. Pharmacokinetic studies indicate that the compound achieves high lung penetration and possesses a distribution profile similar to established asthma treatments such as salbutamol and budesonide, making it a promising candidate for further pharmaceutical development.
