6-nitroquipazine

6-nitroquipazine (also known by the code name DU-24565) is a potent and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is a nitro-derivative of quipazine; however, while quipazine acts as a serotonin receptor agonist, the addition of the nitro group at the 6-position shifts its pharmacological profile to primarily target the serotonin transporter (SERT) with high affinity. It has been utilized extensively as a research tool to investigate serotonergic neurotransmission and the role of serotonin in various physiological processes. Preclinical studies have also investigated its growth-inhibitory effects on human prostate carcinoma cell lines (such as PC-3, DU-145, and LNCaP), where it has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation by blocking serotonin uptake, although it generally exhibits lower potency compared to clinical SSRIs like fluoxetine.
