6-shogaol is a **natural phenolic compound** formed from 6-gingerol by dehydration, and is a major bioactive principle found in dried ginger (Zingiber officinale) rhizomes. It exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Mechanistically, 6-shogaol inhibits inflammatory signaling by downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g. TNF, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8), reducing nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) activation, suppressing cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, and modulating PI3K/Akt, MAPK, and Nrf2/ARE pathways. It is investigated mainly as a research compound and a potential dietary supplement ingredient. No drug development by pharmaceutical companies is reported; it is widely studied for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, and anti-cancer effects[1][3].
